In 1953 Giff Davidge and Bill Hanly became partners and opened Valley Hardware in what is now the Denmarket Square in Solvang. In the sixties Bill moved the operation to where it is today and the store evolved into a Hardware and Nursery center. Ken Verkler, Bills son in law, came on board and worked with Bill in 1972 and became part of the ACE Hardware Coop. Ken and JoAnn bought the business from Bill in 1987 and have continued to operate and expand Valley Hardware. Ben Verkler, Ken and JoAnn’s son, moved back to the Santa Ynez Valley in 1998 and is continuing the tradition of a locally owned and family operated business.
